Spotlight

Spotlight Series: Eliza

Meet Eliza, one of my dearest friends since preschool. She is an outgoing, warm, and caring friend, who recently received clear scans and is now cancer free! Celebrate with us, as we hear from Eliza about her story.

When were you diagnosed with cancer, and what was the diagnosis?

I was diagnosed with a type of bone cancer called osteosarcoma stage 2B on June 26 2019, my thirteenth birthday.

How did you feel when you received this news?

I was confused and mad; I didn’t understand why I had to go through this.  Even though I was upset, I immediately put on a happy face and tried to not let people read how I was truly feeling.

Tell us about the treatment process and chemotherapy.

I had 6 rounds of chemotherapy during my cancer treatment. Each round consisted of three inpatient hospital stays. I went through 2 rounds of chemo and then had a major surgery. In the surgery, my surgeon removed the tumor that was above my right knee, gave me a full knee replacement and partial femur replacement. After the surgery, I started physical therapy and went through 4 more rounds of chemo.

How has this experience brought you closer to the Lord?

When trials came, it seemed like everything was taken away from me. Instead I learned to look at the “small” things and thank God for them. I feel closer to him especially because He provided and brought me through cancer!

Where are you now on the journey?

I am currently 9 months cancer free and we are so thankful. I am continuing to work to gain full strength and mobility in my leg.

What message would you give to other girls who are going through difficult circumstances?

Through it all Christ is with us and walking every step of the way with you and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

What are some fun things about you, hobbies and interests?

I enjoy babysitting, hanging out with friends, and singing.

I love would-you-rather questions, so here’s a nifty one: would you rather have coffee with Kristin Johns or Sadie Robertson?

Even though I love both of these ladies, it would be such an honor and blast to have coffee with Kristen Johns.

Do you prefer indoor activities or outdoor?

I love all things outside, especially in the summer!

*Thank you for sharing a bit of your journey with us, Eliza!
