Sharing My Secrets To Maintain Healthy, Happy Skin
In this post, I will be sharing all my tips and tricks to keep my skin clear and glowy, from foods to skincare products.
First, a bit about my skin type. I have normal to dry, sensitive skin (my skin will occasionally break out due to new products). I get monthly hormonal breakouts that bring texture, so I keep a face mask or pimple patch handy. Breakouts often leave light scarring, or hyperpigmentation; I combat this with products specifically designed to brighten and hydrate the skin. With these factors, I have experimented with different products to find tried-and-true skincare staples that are gentle, simple, and effective.
Skincare Routine
A consistent skincare routine is the key to happy skin! I recommend building a routine that includes a cleanser, serum, moisturizer, and sunscreen. It can be as simple as that! Here are my favorite products for a glowy complexion.
- Advanced Clinicals Brightening Cleanser: I have been using this minty cleanser regularly for the past 8 months, and it has never broken me out. The cleanser is formulated with vitamin c to brighten skin, aloe vera to soothe skin, and peppermint to awaken skin.
- The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum 2% + B5: this serum is packed with hydrating elements, and I have seen a noticeable difference in the plumpness of my skin, and a bonus is that all of the Ordinary’s products are very affordable. I apply this twice a day.
- Advanced Clinicals Vitamin C Serum: my sweet grandmother introduced me to the vitamin c serum, and it has added a glow and dewiness to my skin. I use it a dime-sized amount in the mornings.
- Peach and Lily Glass Skin Serum: though this serum is a bit pricey, it is worth every penny. It contains a blend of niacinamide and peach extract, promoting calm, clear skin. This serum has made the biggest difference in my nighttime skin care routine.
- Differin Acne Cream: this cream minimizes the appearance of occasional blemishes overnight. However, the cream is powerful and will dry out skin, causing redness, so use it sparingly!
- Egyptian Magic Cream: this is a multi-purpose balm; I apply this cream under my eyes to help with dark circles and on my lips to help with chapped lips.
- Peace Slices Snail Mucan Face Mask: don’t be frightened by the snail mucus ingredient! The mask is translucent, slightly sticky, and washes off with lukewarm water. I use this mask bi-weekly or more frequently if needed, and it has a blurring effect on my skin.
Foods + Beverages
- Water
Clear skin starts from the inside-out, which is why water is key to happy, hydrated skin! I was gifted with a Stanley cup for Christmas, and the large size has immensely boosted my daily water intake. I recommend investing in a cute water bottle to carry around school to remind you to drink water. Better yet, find a friend and make a daily water goal to do together! My sisters and I love competing to see who can drink the most water. π
- Oranges
Oranges are well-known for having a high amount of vitamin c, which brightens skin and lightens dark spots. I make homemade orange juice by simply squeezing the juice with a juicer, and it’s a vitamin c shot packed with antioxidants. Also, add oranges and other fruits into juices or smoothies as a healthy breakfast treat!
- Green Tea
Green Tea is full of antioxidants and caffeine, which naturally calms and tones skin. Green tea can be served hot or iced, and I usually drink a warm cup right when I get up in the morning to wake me up. π
Tips + Tricks
- Exercise
There’s something about sweating during a workout that clears the toxins from your body and promotes healthy skin. I notice that my skin is the most clear during intense running season. Find a friend to exercise with you or do an activity/sport that will get your blood flowing.
- Ice
If your face is especially puffy in the mornings, using an ice roller or an ice cube from your freezer to smooth skin can help with inflammation and reduce swelling, as well as closing pores.
- Face Massager
Every few days, I use a face massager device with my cleanser to better clean my skin. The face massager doubles as an exfoliating tool, brushing off the dead skin to encourage skin turnover.
I hope this guide was helpful in providing skincare recommendations and other tips and tricks!
