Book Review: Beautiful Girlhood

Have you ever discovered a book that just speaks to you? Beautiful Girlhood by Mabel Hale is one of those books. This short read, just 220 pages, contains timeless truths for all girls. Throughout the book there’s an analogy of girlhood, which is like a rose growing into full bloom; meaning, we as teens should use these years to mature in our faith, develop our character, and find our identity in Christ alone. Written in the 19th century yet still applicable, the book goes into topics like obedience, purpose, authenticity, friendship, and responsibility. Each chapter is filled with gospel-truth, points that will convict, inspire, and move you.

One of my favorite chapters is about maintaining a sunny disposition. Hale discusses the art of smiling, as some smiles can be forced, while others are tear-chasers: “there is something so understanding in there glance and smile that they make you feel that they care for you and want you to be happy.” I also love how she poignantly says, “smiles and gladness are like sweet peas in that the more you gather and give away, the more you have.” Girls who can overlook the little things that bug and cloud us have mastered the art of being sunny.

I really do encourage you to purchase your own copy of this little book, because there is so much wisdom packed in each page. You’ll find yourself underlining and highlighting frequently!

Warmly,

Seabrook.
